Criteria application residence permit as an independent entrepreneur

If you are not an EU citizen, you have no valid residence permit (anymore) and you decide to open your own business in the Netherlands you will have to apply for a residence permit as an independent entrepreneur.
In order to obtain such a permit you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Your business activities serve an actual material Dutch economic purpose. Whether your business activities serve a material Dutch purpose will be assessed on the basis of a scoring system. The scoring system consists of three parts:
    a) Personal experience (education, experience as a self-employed person, working experience);
    b) Business plan (market analysis, product/service, price, organisation, financing);
    c) Material economic purpose for the Netherlands (innovative, job creation, investments).
  • It is possible to score a maximum of 300 points for al parts combined. You at least need 90 points with a minimum of 30 points per part.
  • You meet the Dutch requirements for practising your profession
  • You have sufficient funds. You are going to earn minimum € 1.070,50 gross per month It should be evident out of the business plan. This whole amount should be available for the period of 12 month starting from the moment of visa application
  • You have a valid passport/ travel document
  • You must have health insurance with cover in the Netherlands
  • You are not constitute a risk to public order
  • You have no tuberculosis

Required documents application residence permit independent enterpreneur

  • Business plan covering:
    • Personal details of the entrepreneur
    • Juridical aspects
    • Commercial/marketing aspects
    • Managements aspects
    • Financial aspects
  • A copy of the deed of incorporation signed by notary. This document should be issued in Dutch, English, German or French languages. If the original is in another language you should provide the legalized translation.
  • In case the company is partnership under common firm (VOF) or limited partnership (CV) provide the copy of the deed of foundation and the partnership contract. This document should be issued in Dutch, English, German or French languages. If the original is in another language you should provide the legalized translation.
  • If required for practicing your profession: a copy of the document stating that you are qualified to practice this profession given by a Dutch authority. This document should be issued in Dutch, English, German or French languages. If the original is in another language you should provide the legalized translation.
  • Freelancers should provide copies of the contracts of their assignments which state that you are going to work as a freelancer.

Costs

Application (MVV voor arbeid als zelfstandige) will cost € 433.
Residence permit will cost € 188.
